Unfortunately we do not support email addresses with generic prefixes (e.g. info@, webmaster@ etc.). You will need to use a personal email address that does not contain this type of prefix. Since email addresses of this nature are typically used for organizations and businesses, we do not allow them to be used for personal hottDhaka accounts. There are no exceptions to this rule. When creating a new password, be sure that it is at least 6 characters in length and that you use a complex string of numbers, letters, and punctuation marks. If the password you entered is not strong enough, you may want to try mixing uppercase and lowercase letters or make your password longer. Ideally, the password you select should be easy for you to remember but hard for someone else to figure out. For added security, your hottDhaka password should also be different than other passwords that you use on the internet. Top

Unfortunately, the Friend Finder is only capable of looking directly at email address books for certain email domains. If an unsupported email warning appears, then the domain that you are trying to use is not currently supported by this feature. Top

You register by clicking on the 'Register' link near the top of the page. You will be asked to choose a user name, password and enter a valid email address. In addition there will be some other fields to which you will be invited to respond. Some will be mandatory while others are optional. Once this is complete you will either be fully registered, or in some cases you may have to click on a link in an 'activation email' sent to your email address. Once you have done this you will be registered.

Note that entering your email address will not leave you open to 'spam', as you can choose to hide it from other board users. You'll probably be able to allow other registered users to contact you via email, but the system won't display your email address to them unless you give permission.

If you are under the age of 13, the administrator may require that a parent or guardian provide consent before allowing you to complete the registration process. More information about this is available during the registration process.

You can invite an unlimited number of people to events, but you can only invite 100 people at a time. Once you invite the first 100 people, you can then start inviting more. In addition, you can only have 300 pending invites at one time for an event; therefore some people will have to respond to your event invite before you can add more. Top

Want to post some photos to entice people to come to your event? Better yet, do you want to post some photos that will allow guests to remember what actually happened? Event administrators can select if they want to allow photos to be posted on the "Edit Event" (http://www.hottdhaka.com/images/actions/edit_event.gif) page. If photos are turned on, the Admin has the choice to allow either all event invitees or only Admin to post.

If you are allowed to add photos, you can make your contribution by selecting "Add Photos" (http://www.hottdhaka.com/images/actions/add_photo.gif) from the main page of the event. You can select up to five photos to add at a time or move as many photos as you want from any photo albums you already have on hottDhaka. If this is an open event, the photos will be visible to everyone who views it. The photos posted on closed and secret events are only visible to other people who were invited. Please remember that Admin have the ability to remove photos that they do not want to be associated with their event.

'Sticky' threads are created by moderators or administrators, and remain 'stuck' to the top of the listing, even if they haven't had any posts recently. Their purpose is to keep important information visible and accessible at all times. Top

To read a thread, click on its title. Each post in a thread is created by a member or a guest. You'll see some brief information about the member who created the thread above the main post message. In some cases it will be to the side of the post.

To post a reply to an existing thread, click on the 'Post Reply' button. If the 'Post Reply' button does not appear, it could mean that you are not logged in as a member, or that you do not have permission to reply, or that the thread has been closed to new replies.
Top

If you have registered and are logged in, you may be able to edit and delete your posts (although the administrator may have turned off this option). Your ability to edit your posts may be time-limited, depending on how the administrator has set up the forum.

To edit or delete your posts, click the Edit button by the particular post. If your post was the first in the thread, then deleting it may remove the entire thread.

Once you've made your modifications, a note may appear to inform other users that you have edited your post.

If the edit time and date appear as a link you can click on this to see the differences between the original and edited versions, or between edits if there have been multiple edits.
Top

Administrators and moderators may also edit your messages. If they do, there may not be a note telling other users that the post was modified. Top

When you post a new thread, you may also have the option to create a poll.

This allows you to ask a question and specify a number of possible responses. Other members will then be able to vote for the response they wish, and the results of the voting will be displayed in the thread.

An example poll might be:

What is your favorite color?

 • Red

 • Blue

 • Yellow

 • Green

 • Sky-blue

 • Pink with yellow spots

To create a poll when you post a new thread, simply click the ' Post a Poll' and set the number of possible responses you want to include.

When you click the submit button, you will be taken to the poll creation page, where you can specify the question and the list of responses you want to include. Top

To vote in a poll, simply select which option you want to vote for, and click the 'Vote!' button. Sometime you can choose more than one option. You can see the current results for a poll before you vote by clicking the 'View Results' link. Voting in a poll is entirely optional. You may vote for any of the available options, or cast no vote at all.

Note whether or not a poll is a public poll. If it is, any votes you cast will be attributable to you.

Generally, once you have voted in a poll, you will not be able to change your vote later, so place your vote carefully!

To attach a file to your post, you need to be using the main 'New Post' or 'New Thread' thread.

On this page, below the message box, you will find a button labeled 'Upload'. Clicking this button will open a new window for uploading attachments. You can upload an attachment either from your computer or from another URL by using the appropriate box on this page. Alternatively you can click the Attachment Icon to open this page.

To upload a file from your computer, click the 'Browse' button and locate the file. To upload a file from another URL, enter the full URL for the file in the second box on this page. Once you have completed one of the boxes, click 'Upload'.

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window. You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.
Top

You can upload .jpg, .gif, .png and .mp3 files. The maximum file size for image is 2MB and for audio is 10MB . Files that are larger than these sizes will be rejected. There may also be an overall quota limit to the number of attachments you can post to the board. Top

Never click suspicious links: It is possible that your friends could unwillingly send spam, viruses, or malware through hottDhaka if their accounts are infected. Do not click this material and do not run any ".exe" files on your computer without knowing what they are. Also, be sure to use the most current version of your browser as they contain important security warnings and protection features. Current versions of Firefox and Internet Explorer warn you if you have navigated to a suspected phishing site, and we recommend that you upgrade your browser to the most current version. You can also find more information about phishing and how to avoid it at http://www.antiphishing.org/consumer_recs.html and http://onguardonline.gov/phishing.html.

Phishing is an online attempt to trick a user by pretending to be an official login page or an official email from an organization that you would have an account with, such as a bank or an email provider, in order to obtain a user's login and account information. In the case of a phishing login page, the login page may look identical to the login page you would normally go to, but the website does not belong to the organization you have an account with (the URL web address of the website should reflect this). In the case of a phishing email, the email may look like an email you would get from the organization you have an account with and get emails from, but the link in the email that it directs you to takes you to the above phishing login page, rather than a legitimate login page for that organization.

To prevent your account information from being obtained in a phishing scheme, only log in to legitimate pages of the websites you have an account with. For example, "www.hottDhaka.example.com" is not a legitimate hottDhaka page on the "www.hottDhaka.com" domain, but "www.hottDhaka.com/example" is a legitimate hottDhaka page because it has the "hottDhaka.com" domain. When in doubt, you can always just type in "hottDhaka.com" into your browser to return to the legitimate hottDhaka site.

Have a unique, strong password: From the Account Settings page, be sure to use a different password than you use for other sites or services, made up of a complex string of numbers, letters, and punctuation marks that is at least six characters in length. Do not use words found in the dictionary.

Run anti-virus software: If your computer has been infected with a virus or with malware, you will need to run anti-virus software to remove harmful programs and keep your information secure.

For Windows:

http://www.microsoft.com/protect/viruses/xp/av.mspx http://www.microsoft.com/protect/computer/viruses/default.mspx

For Apple/Mac OS:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222

If you have uploaded an image as an attachment, you can click the arrow next to the 'Attachment Icon' and select it from the list. This will be inserted into your post and can be located where you want it displayed.

To include an image that is not uploaded as an attachment and is located on another website, you can do so by copying the full URL to the image, (not the page on which the image is located), and either pressing the 'Insert Image' icon or by typing after it, ensuring that you do not have any spaces before or after the URL of the image. You can insert pictures from your albums in this way too.

Smilies are icons that can be used in your posts to express emotions or feelings. You might wish to use these to show that you are happy, sad, joking, or embarrassed. For example, if you are telling a joke or being sarcastic you may wish to add a wink instead of writing 'this is a joke'.

The basic smilies are the same as what you would find on any instant messenger system. They are made up of a combination of characters which often show the basis of the resulting image. For example, :) is converted to a smiley face and :( to a sad face or frown. Tilt your head to the left to see this in action as these consist of two eyes and a mouth either smiling or frowning.

Moderators oversee specific forums. They generally have the ability to edit and delete posts, move threads, and perform other actions. Becoming a moderator for a specific forum is usually rewarded to users who are particularly helpful and knowledgeable in the subject of the forum they are moderating.

Administrators are the people who have overall control of everything that happens on the board. They oversee how the board is styled, what forums to create and how to organize them, what information to require from members and who to appoint as moderators.

Commenting

Profile comments are publicly viewable messages posted on member profile pages. These comments will be viewable by all visitors to this profile, including guest users and search engine robots if the administrator has allowed this. To communicate privately with a member, send a Private Message instead. Top

Members and Profiles

Every member has a publicly viewable profile page. This page includes information provided by the member, either during the registration process or later on via the User Control Panel.

There are a number of ways to view a member's profile. Whenever you see a member's name, clicking on it will usually take you to view their profile page.

The members list/hottpeople allows you to browse all registered members, and quickly click through to public profiles.

When logged in, you can also view your own public profile by logging into the site and clicking on your username shown in the header at the top of the page.
Top

To view information about a particular member, click on the user name. This will take you to their public profile page Top

Another useful email function is the ability to send a friend a link to a thread you think they may find interesting. Whenever you view a thread, you will find a link called 'Share' on the page which will allow you to send a brief message to anyone you like. Your referrer ID is added to the link you send, so if your friend registers on this forum as a result of viewing the link you sent to them, your referrals total will automatically be credited. Top

Registered members may also be able to send messages to other members using the private messaging system. Top

You will find 'Report' links in many places throughout the board. These links allow you to alert the board staff to anything which you find to be offensive, objectionable or illegal.

However, we currently don't have any option to Report users but you can report them here.
